A large sign identifies the school name, instills pride, directs visitors to the main entry.  It can also include a reader board that keeps students, families, and the community connected and up to date on important happenings.

Planting selected are to be local or plants that thrive in the local environment. Maintenance should be considered when incorporating grass and plantings throughout the site. Landscaping is important for design and sustainability of the site.

Fields and play areas need to address the needs of the students and the community. Special thought is to be given to environment regarding drainage, required coverings, lighting and security.

Site walks, site paths, socialization areas, and plazas are all part of the hardscape strategy. These elements need to be accessible, easily maintenance, paved in a light color to reduce solar heat gain, and shaded as needed.  Night lighting should be provided for evening uses and safety.

School name, mascot and color are important parts of creating a school community.
